Seafair has officially started!
This afternoon at Westlake Park, summer was kicked off with the crowning of the 2015 King Neptune and Queen Alcyone. Chosen for their philanthropic contributions and community involvement, Seafair royalty play a huge role each summer as the ambassadors of Seafair. They perform crowning ceremonies to recognize the most amazing citizens in the Seattle area, are guests of honor in the annual Torchlight Parade and provide support to Seafair’s Royalty Program.
This years crowing ceremony was emceed by our own Jose from the Brooke & Jubal in the Morning on MOViN 92.5 and presented by the reigning Miss Seafair, Jasmine Goodwin.
This year’s Queen Alcyone is Captain Suzanna Darcy-Hennemann retired Chief Pilot of Boeing Flight Services. Suzanna joined Boeing in 1974 and spent 23 years as a Production and Experimental Test Pilot and as the Chief Pilot for the Boeing 777 program. The first female to be rated as Captain on the Boeing 747-400, Suzanna is also rated as Captain on the Boeing 737, 757, 767 and 777. An inductee into the Women in Aviation Hall of Fame, she was also honored as an Outstanding Aviator by the Wing Club and IAWA in New York.
The 2015 King Neptune is Mark Dyce-Ryan, co-founder of local award-winning consumer engagement agency 206inc. which is regularly named as one of the best places to work in Washington. Mark is heavily involved with the Plymouth Housing Group, the Inspire Youth Project and the Rainier Valley Food Bank. He also serves on the board of trustees for the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and the College Success Foundation.
As their first official duty, the King and Queen crowned hydroplane racing legend Jimmy Shane as Rex of the World’s Fastest Raceboats and his son Colton as Baron of the Next Generation of Boat Racing. Jimmy Shane has won pretty much every race possible and holds 11 UIM World Records. And as Jose said during the ceremony “… Colton loves to play racecar and raceboat. Can we say 2040 H1 Unlimited Champion anyone?”
